Commissioned at an original cost of $35,000, the Muckenthaler home was built by Walter and Adella Muckenthaler in 1924 atop a hill in Fullerton. The 18-room, 8.5-acres mansion was donated to the city in 1965 by Harold Muckenthaler, who wished to see his childhood home used as a cultural center for the public.  In 1999, the Muckenthaler received designation by the National Register of Historic Places. In its 51st year, the Muck produces more than 60 performances, gallery exhibits, festivals and special events; and more than 6,000 hours of arts education classes at the Muck and in 42 outreach sites serving more than 43,000 people every year.


Audio/Visual Technician
Reports to: Chief Programs Officer
Contracted Position: $25/Hour (The selected candidate will be an Independent Contractor, not an Employee)
16 – 20 events (8 hours per event) May through December (Primarily Thursday and Sundays)               
The Audio/Visual Technician handles the technical operations of our cultural arts center including lighting, sound, sets, displays, and necessary maintenance and event support. 

 
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Audio/Visual Technician is Responsible for:
  • Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists staff, renters, and artists with technical matters
  • Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Makes recommendations to the Chief Programs Officer regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
  • Sets up/takes down performances/exhibitions/classes including equipment, dance flooring, instruments, etc; Heavy lifting of 50 lbs and strenuous activity (walking while lifting)
  • Assist with repairs to the theatre
  • Work well with public and staff - (will be aided by staff member on each event)
  • Have a commitment to diversity and proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities is important. 
  • Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Combination of education and experience of 4 years in theatrical technical work including sound, lighting, etc.
  • Computer skills: Gmail, Google Docs, and Word & Excel
  • Outstanding oral and written English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, detail oriented, self-motivated
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Current California Driver’s license, valid auto insurance
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple complex functions and achieve goals and objectives
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously
