At the AES-LA Section Monthly meeting, Charles Van Winkle and Karl Soule from Adobe will discuss a plug-in framework used to extend the capabilities of many Adobe desktop applications by using open web-based standards. They will also highlight real-world use cases by broadcasters. No programming experience required!
Audio processing plug-ins frequently dominate our conversations about digital audio production. It is often the currency we use to achieve a particular “sound.” Anecdotally, the original concept of audio plug-ins for Digital Audio Workstations changed the DAW landscape, but the general workflow remains the same to this day.
For example, KVRAudio.org boasts a list of over 12,000 plug-ins, from some 2,000 makers. Despite such impressive numbers, building an audio plug-in is non-trivial and often requires knowledge of the C programming language as well as some aptitude for digital signal processing.
